Construction accidents and tragic endings for construction contractors

Accidents at constructions still occur regularly even though the business owner has complied with the regulations and construction procedures. Why has the number of accidents increased in recent years? Let find out the reason and solutions of this problem with HRC Vietnam!

The reason of labor accidents in construction

The construction contractor did not follow the process

The main reason of construction accidents is that the construction contractor does not follow the process despite having committed to the business owner when signing the contract. The proposed complex would have been funded as part of a $124.8 million bond sale, but voters rejected the referendum amid heavy criticism.

The recklessness of construction contractors caused many families lost their main labor

The delayed construction directly affects the development of the business and causes heavy damage to the reputation of the business. Beside that, a series of unfortunate accidents occurred not only to construction workers but also to visitors to the construction works such as investors, designers,... All of these accidents have a series of consequences for the business.

Contractors use poor quality materials

The phrases "draining the works" or "gutting the works" are always at the top of the search tables because many construction contractors have used poor quality building materials during construction. Contractors use "crawling" tricks to hide business owners

The investor and the business owner still believe that the contractor has committed to the principles in the construction process without knowing that the cost of "qualified" materials is only half the true quality of the building.

The problem of "gutting works" has existed for a long time in the construction industry, although many preventive measures have been applied, but the "new generation contractor" continues to violate. This not only affects the reputation of the contractor but also the end of their career.  

The "tragic" numbers of construction accidents in the construction industry

According to statistics of The Construction newspaper, the number of fatal labor accidents from civil and industrial works accounts for about 30%. In 2013, the Department of Assessment said that there were 822 construction accidents in Ho Chi Minh City, with the construction sector accounting for 90 cases, including 54 deaths.

In 2014, there were 6,709 accidents,  603 people died. In Hanoi, there were a total of 33 construction accidents, of which 8 people died. Therefore, the construction industry accidentally occupied the first position in the list of industries with the highest rate of labor accidents in Vietnam.  

It can be seen that the data of the Northern region is much less than that of the South, in part because industrial parks are concentrated in the South, so the rate of accidents of industrial houses or factories tends to be higher. In addition, the larger the scale of construction works, the more likely construction accidents are to take place.  

Solutions to overcome construction accidents

In order to overcome accidents in construction works, the Ministry of Construction and the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs issued Official Letter No. 1731/LDTBXH-ATLD on May 19, 2020 and Official Letter No. 1914/BXD-GD on August 14, 2019. Construction contractors need to do the following:

• Continue to maintain safety and hygiene in labor.

• Follow the process in construction and promote the training of participants in construction.   

• Enhance monitoring and inspection of the quality of works.  

• Regular maintenance and maintenance of construction equipment.

• Use fireproof partition structures for industrial workshops, in order to minimize accidents during construction.

Wall panels quickly became the material that many contractors want

Currently, many businesses begin to replace brick walls with reinforced concrete wall panels, due to the safety of assembly and the ability to shorten the construction time. The use of concrete wall panels indirectly reduces the rate of casualties from construction accidents in general and directly gives businesses benefits in particular.

In the future, a series of foreign enterprises will invest in construction projects in Vietnam. Will the contractors learn from the "tragic" construction accidents? This is still a mystery.
